The Ups and Downs Of A Weight Loss Journey

By: Star Reid
Thinking back to when I started this weight loss journey, I gave myself every excuse in the book as to why I couldn’t lose weight. I now understand that the things I told myself are all part of the negative mental game that unfortunately a lot of people play with themselves. As a result, that type of thinking ends up holding you back from being the best that you can possibly be.

When I started, my goal was to lose weight. And for me, at that time, it was the hardest thing in the world to do. But throughout my journey, the thing that made the biggest difference was having Fresh ‘N Fit Cuisine’s meals. By giving me everything I needed nutrition-wise to lose weight, all I had to do was just stick to the program and follow a simple equation: burn more calories than I take in.

After being on Fresh ‘N Fit for some time, I began to see results. These were REAL results, so my focus changed not to just losing weight but losing weight WHILE gaining muscle. I began doing CrossFit. Another important factor I should mention that has helped me out greatly was that I started working out with a friend who coached me with my weight training. After several months, I began to see muscle definition. Once I got some momentum, seeing the fruits of my labor only motivated me to continue.

As I started to lift more, I was hungrier and had to eat more. Even though I did gain a few pounds, I was able to keep it in check for the most part. I was actually proud of myself for eating more, gaining a few pounds, and not beating myself up about it. Because Fresh ‘N Fit’s meals are calorie and portion controlled, it was a lot easier to not overeat. And when I did eat a little extra, it was protein, like eggs, or some fruit to satisfy my sweet tooth.

My journey has been filled with ups and down but I have gained a better understanding of my body as it’s related to nutrition. At one point, my job put me on split shift for an entire month. During that time, I wasn’t able to weight train with my friend. To my amazement, I actually lost about 10 lbs. because I wasn’t lifting as heavy, so I was less hungry as a result.

It was a real eye opener for me to understand how my body reacts to how often you train and eat. After I returned to my normal work schedule, I started weight training again and sure enough, I gained those 10 lbs. back. This time around, I wasn’t as upset with myself for gaining back the weight. I wanted to get stronger.

The Secret To Fitness Success

Can you remember how it felt the last time that you ate clean, exercised hard and got adequate sleep for a few consecutive days? A feeling of momentum came over you, didn’t it? There was a buzzing in your cells and a rhythm in your pace. You felt alive, you felt sexy, and you felt empowered. Never mind that you weren’t yet at your goal number, you were headed there!

Getting down to your goal weight, and fitting into your goal size, is the direct result of living in that state of momentum for an extended period of time. You see, the momentum can be felt immediately, once you start eating clean, exercising hard and taking care of your health, whereas that “goal number” simply can’t be felt until it is achieved, and so it’s not as powerful a motivator.

My challenge and advice to you is to find the joy of living in the momentum, and keep that momentum going until your goal number is achieved.

Focus only on the momentum, not on the number.

Fitness is a way of life. Being lean is a lifestyle. Neither of which can be had by going about it halfheartedly.

You have to become the momentum.

Fresh ‘N Fit Cuisine’s Weight Loss Journeys: Katie Allen

Weight Loss Journeys_ Katie Allen (1)
Five years ago, I was the best shape of my life. I consistently made it to the gym every day, ate healthy and got plenty of sleep. I never understood how it could be hard for someone to do these things, because for me it came so naturally.

Fast forward five years and two babies later. About 6 months ago I was in the worst shape of my life with my weight being 170 pounds. After having my son, I returned to the gym with the same fire I previously had and started ordering meals from Fresh ‘N Fit Cuisine. I started off with their Paleo menu but switched to their Custom plan and have been on that ever since.

After about five months, I lost 40 pounds and was almost back to my pre-pregnancy weight.  But in April I traveled to Colorado and unfortunately completely cheated on my diet. In the time since then I’ve had ups and downs and it has become harder to find that motivation to stay on track.  I haven’t made it to the gym as much as I should, and in addition to my Fresh ‘N Fit meals, I haven’t been watching my macros as strictly as I normally have. I’ve felt like I have been trapped in someone else’s body for the last month.

It is time for a change! It’s time to establish a new routine and stick to it. I’ve recently signed up at Lifetime fitness where they have babysitting with the goal of relieving some of the stress that came from bringing my son and having to watch him while I was at my CrossFit classes.

I also want want to incorporate new things into my fitness regimen like Yoga, Pilates and some of the other classes I have never tried. Fortunately, Fresh ‘N Fit Cuisine’s meals have remained the constant throughout my trials and tribulations.

Fresh ‘N Fit Cuisine’s Weight Loss Journeys: Star Reid

Weight Loss Journeys_ Star Reid (1)

This week in our latest installment of our Weight Loss Journeys series, we check in with Star Reid.  Star, who is an avid motorcycle racer/rider, has struggled to lose weight over the past couple of years and after getting into a motorcycle accident last year, it became even more difficult. In spite of that, she eventually realized that the only thing that was holding her back was herself.

She began her journey with our Healthy Mix menu but unfortunately wasn’t able to stick with our portion sizing and began eating more “comfort” foods throughout the day. Also drinking a lot of empty calorie beverages like soda and sweet tea sabotaged her efforts as well.

Last December, she switched to our Low Carb menu and started working out regularly at her local gym. She explains, “I’ve really never been a healthy eater. I love french fries, pizza, chinese take-out…but something changed when I started ordering Fresh ‘N Fit’s Low Carb menu.” She made a promise with herself that she would stick to eating the Low Carb meals and say goodbye to all of the comfort food she loved.

She adds, “Changing my diet and taste palette were two of the biggest challenges I’ve faced. But now that I’ve done that, I’ll definitely keep them forever! I wouldn’t not have been able to do that with my Fresh ‘N Fit Cuisine meals!

Initially, she thought that she lacked the discipline to stay on a low carb diet for any substantial amount of time, but Star has been proving herself wrong again and again. She explains, “My body feels so much better since I’ve been on Fresh ‘N Fit’s meals. It’s like I’m fueling my body to actually work instead of just feeding it useless, unhealthy food that it doesn’t need.” And all of that focus and commitment has paid off because since being on our Low Carb meals, she has lost a total of 35 lbs!

Seeing the results of her hard work and dedication has allowed Star to remain motivated, so let her be the amazing inspiration that you need today by giving her a follow on Instagram to follow her continued progress.

This week in our latest installment of our Weight Loss Journeys series, we check in with Farrah Galloway. Over the past couple of years, Farrah has struggled to lose weight and after she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, she fell into the routine of eating unhealthy food. She explains, Because I didn’t feel good…I didn’t eat well.

During the first few weeks of eating our meals and regular workouts at her neighborhood CrossFit box, she lost 6 lbs!

She explains, “For the first time in awhile, the numbers on my scale are going down! My clothes are fitting better and my energy levels are amazing. I’m sleeping better and Fresh ‘N Fit’s Low Carb meals makes it so simple to keep my calories on track.”

The ease and convenience of Fresh ‘N Fit’s macro-based meals has made such a big difference in her life. Meet Ashley Witter, Fresh ‘N Fit Advocate

My personal story started back in 2015 when I was working at a high level “stressful” corporate job and had gained close to 40 lbs. I resigned from that job in 2015 and decided to finally take control of my health.

In 11 months, I lost 95 lbs by learning how to eat the “right” food for optimize my weight loss efforts along with being physically active. I met David Rogers with Fresh & Fit Cuisine about 8 months ago while on my health journey and found to love what Fresh & Fit Cuisine represented. I teach at Kennesaw State University as the Health Coach Instructor and I teach my students to follow the Dietary Guidelines of Choose My Plate.

What is great about Fresh & Fit is that it is locally based in Atlanta and provides people with healthy delicious meals easily.

It takes the hassle out of trying to figure out what to buy in the grocery store and prepare at home. It also follows the myplate.com standards of the 9″ plate portion control breakout of consumption with  nutrient dense proteins, carbs, dairy, fruit & veggies in every meal. Meals are specific to people with various health issues as well as just a standard healthy mix.   As I mentioned before, Fresh & Fit has helped myself and others meet their nutrition and fitness goals without having to plan, cook or settle for a frozen, high sodium, preserve meals.  I am looking forward to being part of this great team and using a product that I truly believe can help us all in our weight loss efforts.

Happy Anniversary, Connie!

It’s been awhile since we’ve checked in with Connie Harwood, so it made perfect sense to see how she was doing on her 1 year anniversary of starting her mission to live a healthier lifestyle. We’ve been there for a majority of her journey and we couldn’t be more proud of her for what she has accomplished!

Connie explains, “It has been one amazing year since I started my journey to try to be a healthier person and on my 1 year anniversary I have something to celebrate. As of this week, I have said goodbye to another 5 pounds, for a total of……drum roll please…..50 pounds!”

“I have learned so many things in the last year. One of them is portion control. It’s so important to spread my calories evenly throughout the day. Before my journey, I ate less than 200 calories for breakfast, a few more at lunch, and then the most of my calories were at dinner time.”

“With the help of Fresh ‘n Fit Cuisine, I have about 400 calories with each meal. The calories and portions are controlled. When I eat out I now consider calories and portion!”

Connie started off on our Healthy Mix menu before transitioning to Low Carb. Along with working out 3-5 times a week at U First Fitness, our meals have helped make the past 12 months a success.

Are you ready to put in the hard work like Connie and get the same amazing results? Then try one of our 5 chef prepared menus today! You can even order individual meals with our a la carte options or try some of our house made protein bars and healthy mix snack packs.

#RideLikeAStar: The Struggle Is Real

starreidOnce again, please allow us to introduce our latest success story, Star. Riding an ’08 Honda CBR1000, she races motorcycles for a living. In 2015, while recovering from an accident, her health and her fitness goals suffered. Changes were going to have to be made if she was going to get back on track. But as we all know, the struggle is real and you’ll have both good and bad moments as Star explains in her latest entry:

“September has been a month of very little free time for me!! With that being said, I’ve still been trying to stay focused on myself and striving to do better every week! My schedule has been crazy and I am going out of town every weekend this month, so it’s definitely going to be more of a challenge because I will not be able to stick to my meal plan the way I would like to.
It has been a struggle for me with my exercise also. I go to the gym and  do at least 30 minutes of cardio 6 times a week if possible. This month I have only been there a total of 4 times. Having to come home and pack for my trips, along with prepping my bike to ensure it’s ready for the rides, has taken up a large portion of my gym time.

The first weekend that I was out of town was for Labor day. I actually did well and didn’t eat anything too horrible. Of course I had a small piece of cake to celebrate, but I stayed in control of myself. My second weekend was to the mountains for the Women’s Sport Bike Rally. I did pretty well there until they brought out some pizza. I actually ate more than what I should have.

After eating it, my body did not react well. My stomach started hurting and I felt sick for about 3 hours. Riding while feeling sick isn’t a good mixture. That was the first big meal I had that wasn’t a meal from Fresh ‘N Fit Cuisine. This made me realize that my body had gotten used to the prepped meals that I had been eating for all of August. It was obvious that they were more nutritionally balanced and so much better for my body.”

I think we all can relate to the obstacles that will arise when you try to make a lifestyle change. At Fresh ‘N Fit Cuisine, we want to make it easier to achieve your health goal with our calorie and portioned controlled meals.

Our NEW FALL MENUS are here with hundreds of new and updated meals, so now is the perfect time to try them! Use promo code BLOGSEPT20 at checkout and get $20 off your first order!
