Looking For A Healthy Meal and Delivery Service in Atlanta?

By: Michael Kummer
If you live in the Atlanta area and are looking for a meal plan or delivery service that offers fresh, local, chef-prepared and Paleo-compatible meals at a reasonable price, consider giving Fresh ‘n Fit Cuisine a try.

About Fresh ‘n Fit Cuisine

I had never heard about Fresh ‘n Fit Cuisine, but they have been creating and delivering healthy, chef-prepared gourmet meals for customers in the Atlanta area since 2003. They are an employee-owned company that has the goal of supporting local farmers and food producers by locally sourcing ingredients and taking the guesswork out of healthy living.

The fresh, gourmet meals prepared by your Fresh ‘n Fit Cuisine™ chefs are an affordable way to eat well every day—for a fraction of the cost of having a personal chef. When you add in the convenience that comes from never having to shop, prep, cook or clean up, it’s the smartest way to enjoy mouthwatering meals and still meet your nutrition and wellness goals.

How it works

Fresh ‘n Fit Cuisine offers a variety of meal plans and options to customize your meals. You can even choose between pickup and delivery as well as the calorie count per meal. Getting started is straightforward:

  • Pick your meal plan start date and number of weeks
  • Choose from one of their five menus or create a custom menu
  • Select the number of meals per day, calorie count and days per week
  • Choose a pickup location or shipping method

Meal plans

Fresh ‘n Fit Cuisine offers five menus and an option to customize your meal plan.

  • Healthy Mix: As the name implies, it’s a mix of traditional food that includes lean meats and seafood.
  • Vegetarian: Includes house-made meatless meals that are low in fat and cholesterol. Sounds like the opposite of what I would get 🙂
  • Low Carb: Those meals contain approximately 15% net carbs. Three meals add up to only 40 net grams per day.
  • Paleo: My obvious choice of entirely organic, naturally gluten and dairy-free meals made with grass-fed, cage-free meats, wild-caught seafood, and organic fruits and vegetables.
  • Gluten Free: Those meals are naturally gluten-free, but since cross-contamination cannot be guaranteed, they are not recommended for those with Celiac Disease.
  • Custom: Build your own menu from over 300 meals to choose from.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Plans

Pricing

Meals start at $7.50 per meal but can go up to $14.99 if you only order one individual 600-calories dinner meal. You can see all the pricing options here, but in a nutshell, you pick your meals based on the following matrix:

  • How many meals per day: For example, you can select breakfast, lunch & dinner, or breakfast & lunch, or lunch & dinner, etc.
  • Days per week: Depending on the plan, you can choose 3, 5, or 7 days per week.
  • Calorie count: Options include 400 and 600 calories per meal.
  • Individual meals: You can order as little as a single meal.

If you don’t want to bother with grocery shopping and cooking at all, you can sign up for the seven days a week, three meals a day plan. That plan would cost you about $155 or $177 per week, depending on if you choose the 400 or 600 calories per meal option. Per month, that would add up to $620 and $708, respectively, plus sales tax and distribution or delivery fee.

Broiled Pork Tenderloin

It’s important to note that some of the plans, including the Paleo choice, have a $9.50 per week additional charge. In return, you get the healthiest and highest-quality food Fresh ‘n Fit cuisine offers.

As a result, 21 meals (600 calories each) per week on the Paleo plan would cost me $745.96 per month, plus $26 in sales tax and distribution fee, if I choose to pick up my meals at a nearby pickup location. If I wanted my meals to be delivered instead, I would have to pay $139.20 for sales tax and delivery fee, not including any special offers or discounts.

Pickup locations in the Alpharetta area

Pickup and Delivery

One advantage of Fresh ‘n Fit Cuisine is that they offer over 100 pickup locations in the Atlanta Metro area. By picking your meals up instead of having them delivered, you can save a substantial amount of money.

For most plans, you can pick up your freshly prepared meals on Monday and Thursday, between 4 and 7 pm. For us, the closest pickup location was less than two miles away. That made picking up our meals a convenient and cost-saving option.

How do the meals taste

To me, food is first and foremost fuel, and the taste is only a second priority. But I appreciate that for most of you, those priorities may be reversed. The good news is that Fresh ‘n Fit Cuisine successfully delivered on both fronts. Their Paleo meals are prepared with high-quality ingredients, they arguably taste delicious, and they were satisfying.

I truly enjoyed all of their meals and didn’t have a favorite. Kathy, my wife, liked the salmon best and highly recommends it. She kept talking about how good it was, even days after she had it. Fresh ‘n Fit Cuisine can take that as a well-deserved compliment, as I know Kathy as a somewhat picky eater when it comes to meals she didn’t prepare herself.

Why you should consider a meal (delivery) service

For many, being a stay-at-home wife/mom or husband/dad isn’t the first career choice. For some it’s not fulfilling, for others, it would be financially challenging. Whatever the reasons may be, having a job significantly limits the time you have left for things like grocery shopping, cooking and spending it with your loved ones. But it’s not just about buying food and eating it. It’s spending time on figuring out what’s truly healthy.

Or you may be single, with no desire to cook. Whatever the circumstances may be, meal services like Fresh ‘n Fit Cuisine are a viable option you should consider.

The case for Fresh ‘n Fit Cuisine

Fresh ‘n Fit Cuisine not only saves you a ton of time, but it also takes the guesswork out of healthy eating. Even if you don’t care about the Paleo diet, why gluten is bad or why grass-fed is better than corn-fed beef, rest assured, they do. And letting them make the right choices for you, will benefit your health in the long run.

I spend countless hours reading and researching healthy eating. But I understand that not everyone shares my compassion for that topic. I’m fortunate to have a wife who chooses to stay at home with the kids and to embrace a Paleo-centered lifestyle. I also work from home and enjoy a home-cooked meal every day, unless I am traveling.

The chances are that your circumstances may be different. If so, I would encourage you to take a closer look at how much time you or your partner spend on grocery shopping and meal preparation. If you rather spend that time on something else, give Fresh ‘n Fit Cuisine a try.

Epic Weekend? It’s Time To Undo The Damage

alcohol-hangover-event-death-52507
What a weekend that was! You went out, you ate and drank and had a blast! And now the fun is over and the consequences are setting in…you feel terrible. You woke up with a headache, an overall feeling of bloating and a sluggishness that you can’t shake.

It’s time to undo the damage brought on from that epic weekend. Here’s how…

1. No More Junk!

It may sound obvious, but the first step to recovering from all that fun you had is to stop the damage. No more naughty foods. No more alcohol.

When you are vacationing or partying it’s easy to remove your mindful eating and drinking mechanism, and to replace it with the anything-goes mindset. This makes sense for party-mode, but once you come back home and get back to real life it’s important to firmly put an end to the junk food and calorie-laden beverages. If you don’t then your weekend diet may continue into your week, resulting in tons of extra calories that quickly add up in unwanted pounds.

2. Flush Your System.

For the next 48 hours your main mission is to drink as much water as possible. All of those poor food and drink choices result in dehydration, which manifests in a pounding headache and a feeling of sluggishness. Plan to sip on water throughout the next two days, adding in fresh sliced fruit, cucumbers, mint or basil to add a refreshing and rewarding flavor.

3. Get Some Rest.

End the party or vacay Sunday afternoon so that you can get into bed early in preparation for the week ahead. It may not sound super exciting to plan an early-to-bed night at the end of your weekend but, come Monday morning, you will be functioning much better with a little rest under your belt. Plan to get to bed early the next couple of days as well, and fit in a nap if possible.

4. Eat Cleansing Foods.

You’ve stopped eating junk, now fill your diet with small light meals consisting of fiber and a serving of protein. Stick with only whole foods for the next 48 hours. Fruits and fresh veggies should make up the bulk of your calories as you recover. Asparagus, leafy greens, citrus fruits, and raw veggies are all wonderful items to enjoy in addition to high quality, low fat protein.

5. Avoid Going Extreme.

Yes, you ate and drank a LOT this weekend, but swinging the pendulum too far in the other direction isn’t actually going to help. Overcompensation is rarely a winning idea. Fight the urge to skip meals or to over-exercise in response to your indulgences. Going from one extreme to the other creates a bad cycle that leaves you feeling even more tired. In addition, taking your body from feast to famine will actually make you more prone for fat storage.

Getting and staying in great shape will not only help you bounce back from the weekend faster, it will also help you achieve healthy habits that will stick with you even as you party and vacation.

Finding a Healthy Balance With Fresh ‘N Fit

10150588_10202759687889054_679119727914869888_n
By: Adam McCabe
I am halfway through the NPSL season with the Georgia Revolution and I could not be happier with how things are going. I am performing well and the team is right in the mix for making the playoffs this summer. Furthermore, I personally feel great and have really leaned out during the season.

With the season being a long 5 plus months long, and my schedule being pretty hectic with practices, matches, and community events, I really need a constant in my life when it comes to my food and diet.

Thankfully, I have Fresh ‘N Fit meals to provide me with that healthy balance throughout my life.

The toughest challenge I face while playing for the Georgia Revolution is the fact that three times a week I have to travel down to McDonough, Georgia for practice. While it is only a mere 40 minutes away (on a good day with little traffic), I still spend a  total of 4 hours on practice days committing to traveling to practice, practicing, and then traveling home. Practices begin at 7:30 and last till around 9 to 9:30. Then I have to make the 40 minute drive home.

The last thing I want to worry about or do after a long day and soccer practice is cooking a meal. By the time I get back into Atlanta, most restaurants or healthy eating establishments are closed.  However, with my paleo Fresh ‘N Fit meals, as soon as I return home I can pop one in the oven while I shower and within 20 minutes of getting home, I am eating a healthy meal.

For me, the most important asset of Fresh ‘N Fit meals is the ease of making the meals and how much time it saves me during my busy schedule.

I am not sure how I would be able to eat properly and with such ease without Fresh ‘N Fit. Thankfully these meals enable me to continue playing the game I love, while having a stress free life and helping me perform at an ultimate level.

In terms of performing consistently at a high level (within your sport), feeling active and healthy overall, or those who are looking to lose weight, the key is to have a consistent, healthy diet. As the saying goes, “it is 80% diet and 20% exercise.” Whatever your goal is,  Fresh ‘N Fit meals will provide the necessary platform to help you surpass and achieve these feats. I am able to perform on a consistently high basis while playing for the Georgia Revolution because I have a great foundation with my diet. My body and mind are in the correct space to perform, due to the healthy foods I eat and fuel my body with daily.

To Snack Or Not To Snack…

By: Adam McCabe
The most exciting news I heard coming into the New Year from Fresh ‘N Fit was the introduction of their snack packs and dessert boxes.  I have tried many of different meal plans (thankfully finding and loving Fresh ‘N Fit), but never had I tried a snack pack or dessert box.

A major health and nutritional struggle of mine has always been snacking. In fact, this is one of the largest issues individuals have when attempting a new diet, trying to lose weight, or just trying to live a normal healthy life. With the access to so many (and unhealthy) snacks, snacking becomes a vehicle into bad nutritional decision-making. Whether this comes from choosing bad snacks, or choosing to over snack, snacking can de the downfall of an individuals diet. We must remember to constantly be making good choices of what, when, and how much we snack.

What I loved about my Fresh ‘N Fit snack packs was the variety and the portion sizes. Below is a list of the snack pack I received with my meals this Monday.

Snack Pack week of Sunday, March 26, 2017:

  • Coconut Chocolate Macaroons
  • Paleo Granola
  • Spiced Chia Roasted Nuts
  • Pizza Muffins
  • Chocolate Paleo Bar
  • Cranberry Date Paleo Bar
  • Chocolate Almond Banana Chip Mix
  • Almond Butter Apricot Bites
  • Olive Tapenade with Veggies
  • Pesto Chicken Salad

Each snack was served in its own container and was labeled accordingly. I chose the paleo snack pack option, as it fits in with my current diet regimen. Fresh ‘N Fit offers two types of snack packs, paleo and healthy mix. Why the snack pack work great for me, is that it controls my urge to over snack. I often make healthy snacking choices, yet I continue to snack due to boredom or to pass time. I do not allow myself the chance to fully digest before I am in the process of over snacking. With the Fresh ‘N Fit paleo snack pack, I have the ability to know that eating one full snack pack item should be sufficient as my one morning or afternoon snack. This has greatly helped my issues of over snacking in my diet. Furthermore, the paleo snack pack comes with such a wide variety of different options, I am never bored with the snacks I have at hand. I also always feel comfortable (and never guilty) about snacking, since the items I am choosing to snack on are consistent to my diet plan and portions.

Like the majority of individuals out there, I love to wind down a night with something sweet to help finish off my day. I definitely have a “sweet tooth” and have constantly struggled with finding a healthy option for dessert. I often find myself eating the most convenient dessert possible and sacrificing my diet for my sweet tooth. I was the most excited to hear Fresh N Fit was coming out with a dessert line, for the fact that I knew their dessert options would help curb my portion control issues and give me a healthy balanced choice of dessert options.

I cannot even begin to express how satisfied I have been with the taste, quality, freshness, and portion sizes of the dessert boxes. I do not think I will ever be able to cut a small dessert out of my diet, but Fresh ‘N Fit makes me feel much less guilty with their fantastic plates. Below is the list of the dessert box I received this week:

Dessert Box week of Sunday, March 26, 2017:

  • Peach Cobbler
  • Pumpkin Spice Cake
  • Apple Crusted Pie
  • Pecan Bar
  • Raisin White Chocolate Chip Cookie
  • Whipped Chocolate Mousse with Fruit

I plan on making sure I have these two latest and greatest additions to Fresh N Fit in my weekly orders. Both the snack pack and dessert box provide healthy, portioned sized options for individuals who need help curbing the snacking or sweet tooth issues. The best part about both new features is how incredibly amazing they taste!

Anyone who has experienced the joys of Atlanta’s morning commute has most likely listened to either of radio’s most popular morning shows…Q100’s The Bert Show and 94.9 The Bull’s Caffeinated Radio with Jason and Kristen.
